Why Didn't They Ask Evans?: Miniseries | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) It’s all amateur sleuths and mysterious figures, topped by wry dialogue and Laurie’s old pals as a wildly overqualified supporting cast. Mar 14, 2024 Full Review Why Didn't They Ask Evans?: Miniseries | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News The period details are divine, but it’s the charming turns from Poulter and Boynton that make this red herring-stuffed 1934 whodunit such a pip. Rated: 3/4 Aug 17, 2023 Full Review Why Didn't They Ask Evans?: Miniseries | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Jack Seale Guardian There is nothing here you would want to change. Rated: 5/5 Apr 10, 2023 Full Review Why Didn't They Ask Evans?: Miniseries | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Sarah Cartland Caution Spoilers An enjoyable and tellingly sharp adaptation, though it does go on a bit. Daniel Ings is enjoyably louche and rather mesmerising. Rated: 4/5 May 12, 2022 Full Review Why Didn't They Ask Evans?: Miniseries | Rotten Tomatoes (5) James Delingpole The Spectator Why Didn’t They Ask Evans? is what TV ought to be but so rarely is these days: honest entertainment that neither tries to hector you with indignant politics nor to drag you through the emotional wringer leaving you distraught and unsettled. Apr 28, 2022 Full Review Why Didn't They Ask Evans?: Miniseries | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Adam Sweeting The Arts Desk The show feels spry and wry as it wends its way to a conclusion, finding room to enjoy the eccentricities and peccadilloes of its cast along the way. Robert T Pretty slow but despite this the cast is absolutely fabulous and the production values are high. A good Sunday afternoon watch but nothing memorable Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/18/23 Full Review Joseph C It's a clever and fun show with a great chemistry between the two main characters Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/14/23 Full Review Mike F Didn't have the atmosphere - no realistic relationship Terrible music Rated 2.5/5 Stars • Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/19/23 Full Review Roryy A pretty fun watch with some good performances and an interesting plot. The first episode is definitely the strongest, it does a great job introducing the characters, the threats, the setting and the mystery, however over the following episodes it falls apart. Lucy Boynton added a level of charm to her role as Frankie that made me smile whenever she appeared onscreen, and Will Poulter brings Bobby to life with his fantastic talent and chemistry with Lucy, however I can't help but feel like there was something missing from their relationship. The second episode was also strong and had some great comedic moments, but the cracks begin to form when questions from the first episode remain unanswered. The third episode is by far the worst, as the entire conclusion is crammed into the final 15 minutes, only being explained by incoherent and overly complicated dialogue. While the characters remain consistent throughout, there are several moments where logic is thrown out the window, and scenes that are intended to shock us instead made me burst out laughing from the sheer stupidness of the directing. Overall, I would still recommend this show for mystery lovers, but 'Why Didn't They Ask Evans?' certainly deserved 1-2 more episodes for a more consistent pace. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/12/23 Full Review Mike T I actually quite enjoyed it Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/12/23 Full Review Paul B Drawn out, clumsily acted, no chemistry between the two leads. Scenes were overly long and often did nothing to expedite the narrative. So many holes which severely tested a viewers belief. Clearly a shed load of cash was raised for its production, but when the acting is so flat and dull one starts to envy those murdered and put out of their misery. Avoid.
